About Me
Hi I’m Lisa, a birth and postnatal doula in East London, and I am passionate about birth! Your birth….every birth!
Every birthing person should have a positive and empowering experience throughout their pregnancy until they are ready to give birth to their baby, and I am here to support you through this journey.
I am also here for you in the period after, whether you are starting your parenting journey, or adding to your family!
A bit about me
I am a scouser, who landed in London in 2006 and have been calling East London home since then. What you can expect from me is warm, friendly, empathetic support, with gentle and/or fierce advocacy all the way.
I am a mum to 2 wonderful small people, aged 11 and 6, one of whom is neurodiverse and I have lots of advice and knowledge to share from my lived experience. From birth, to breastfeeding, to baby wearing, to navigating parenthood and beyond.
I have a creative background in design, fashion , oh and operations management…which actually all really helps! But honestly since having my own children, this has been my calling!
I do believe in continuous learning, and that everything is connected (and I am a bit of a geek) so I am always doing training to learn more about this wonderful enormous topic(!) of holistic creation of life and beyond!
And talking about that…how amazing is it that we can create life like this and then bring this new life into the world! I am here for you every step to of the way, providing individualised support (that is beneficial to you and what you need and want!). I have worked with clients across different settings, from those who have wanted home births, to birthing centres, to those with more complex medical needs. I have supported elective caesarean births, creating a plan for a more gentle experience for the birthing person.
I also work with Happy baby Community, a beautiful community of support for women and birthing people who have fled from violence or traffickers, and who are pregnant or with a young child and are seeking international protection in the UK. I provide 1-2-1 doula care for them, again working to ensure every birth is positive and empowered.
I am committed to supporting all birthing people and fighting against inequalities. My work is trauma informed as I know most of us have experienced some trauma and some of us have experienced great trauma.
I see the huge inequalities in perinatal care and outcomes for those in the global majority who are minoritized and I am here for you. I also recognise LGBT+ birthing people and especially those who do not identify as female or mothers can have such a hard time navigating the outdated system, and I am here for you too.
If you are neurodiverse we can look at how you process information and create a plan to support your needs.
Work with me
There are a number of ways we can work together, and I would love to have a chat with you to discover if we are a good fit! We can do a video call, or an in person coffee in East London during the week!
I have different packages, where you can read more, but all of these will be customised to provide you with individualised care.
Full Birth Package
I really believe feeling safe and having trust with your birth team is key (and with everything in life!) I want to get to know you and your partner/family and so I offer 5 antenatal meetings after our initial meeting. During these sessions we can get to know each other (bring your partner!) and we can deep dive into birth physiology, birth preparation, feeding and more. We will also make a postnatal plan I will be then on call from 38 weeks until 42 weeks, be with you at the birth and stay with you during that golden hour and until you are settled.
I will then see you for 6 postnatal sessions (or 10-12 hours) to support those early days/weeks, however you need.
Elective Caesarean Package
Everyone’s journey is different. We can work together and plan to create a gentle, family centred caesarean. I will support you to prepare. There is so much you can do to create the atmosphere you want, support baby’s microbiome, feeding and beyond. Over 4 sessions, also making a postnatal plan including recovery.
I will be there with you at the hospital, at the caesarean itself if you want me to be there (it is usually only 1 birth partner allowed in theatre and recovery) or I will be there waiting for you all when you come out of recovery.
We will then do 6 postnatal sessions (or 10-12 hours) to support those early days/weeks and recovery.
On going postnatal care
I offer individual postnatal care. This can look like me turning up, looking after baby whilst you rest/shower/do whatever you need to do! Feeding support, making you some nutritious yummy food, filling up your dishwasher and clearing the decks…listening to you and how you are feeling, offering emotional support and advice, and also signposting you to any other agencies that you may need. A week or so down the line, we might be having our session in your local cafe having a latte whilst you have your first public breastfeed…I am here for you!
My postnatal care is £25 per hour, with a block of 10 hours for £200.
Please note I can only offer my postnatal care to clients I have already supported.
Virtual Support
I can support your choices and help you make a plan virtually if you are not based in London… you could be anywhere!
We can do 6 antenatal calls and I will be available via Whatsapp from 38 weeks until baby is born…with some additional scheduled video calls too to get you through those final weeks…perhaps to help you decide how to move forward if you have passed your estimated due date or just additional advice if your situation changes as it very often does! I am there for you.
We will then have 6 postnatal calls for emotional and practical support and advice, including any signposting for any additional support you may need.
Birth Physiology and Birth Plan Power Hours!
I really believe that understanding your body and birth physiology is the key to your positive birth experience. Of course there are many factors, but really getting into the nitty gritty of what your body does, birth hormones and how it is all a holistic experience AND then using this knowledge to write a solid birth plan (it’s all in the details) can make all the difference to your experience.
We will have 2 1 1/2 hour sessions, look at your pregnancy and physiology and make a solid plan.
We can do this over video call or if you are local, go for ‘walk and talk’ coaching sessions in a local East London park (I love these!)…Usually London Fields or Victoria Park. I will write up your plan after and you will receive a copy of this.
Please do drop me a line if you would like to discuss anything or have any questions! X
